Tribological Properties of Polymer Friction Improvers Combined with MoDTC/ZDDP at Different Temperatures

To expand the applications of polymer friction modifiers in low viscosity oils suitable for hybrid power systems, tribological properties five kinds oil samples at different temperatures were studied, which compounded with Perfad XG 2500, molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate (MoDTC), zinc dithiophosphate (ZDDP). When 2500 is used alone, it forms a brush-like surface film temperatures, can provide lower initial friction. With rise temperature, its antifriction effect decreases significantly, related to desorption behavior physical film. combined MoDTC, has best synergistic effect, and average coefficient reduced by maximum 20.83% (90 °C). Its coefficients decrease significantly increase temperature due dissociation process MoDTC catalyzed high temperature. However, there are many furrows on worn surfaces, sharp features profiles obvious. ZDDP, anti-wear total wear depth 49.6%. smooth defect-free, minimal residual strain. The hardly affected 14.4% (30 ZDDP together, up 15.2% increases slightly reason moderate performance may be superficial competition various additives.
